Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has cautioned the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) against demanding the deputy president’s seat in the anticipated coalition talks, stressing that the position is already ably occupied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Speaking in Chuka during the burial of County Secretary Alex Muratha’s mother, Priscillah Muratha, Governor Njuki emphasized that the deputy president’s office should not be part of the bargaining table, noting that Kindiki has served President William Ruto with diligence and loyalty.

Njuki further dismissed ODM’s push as baseless, pointing out that the party is fragmented and lacks the leverage to dictate terms. He reminded ODM leaders of the political weight carried by the Mt. Kenya region, warning that sidelining it would have significant consequences.

However, the governor added that if ODM insists on its demands, the ruling UDA party could “donate” Kindiki to ODM—while ensuring he retains his role as deputy president.

Governor Njuki concluded by reaffirming that Kindiki’s position is non-negotiable in any coalition talks.
