Maara Constituency Member of Parliament Kareke Mbiuki has affirmed that the dream of having a university in the constituency was edging closer through the efforts of the national government.

Kareke, who was speaking during the official opening and handover ceremony of Nturiri Boys Senior School, revealed that plans were underway to establish a constituent college under Chuka University at Nturiri, with the Commission for University Education (CUE) expected to conduct an inspection in June.

“Through the efforts of our Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, we are going to have a constituent college here. An institution of higher learning will directly impact the lives of residents here and serve as a great boost to our community. That is the dream we have for Nturiri,” he said.

Nturiri Boys Senior School was moved to pave the way for the establishment of the university, relocating to land made available by Nturiri Primary School and constructed fully through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

“We will do what it takes to have a university at Nturiri. We gave our commitment as a community to donate land for the institution. That is the extent of sacrifice we have made to ensure that we have an institution of higher learning here,” he said.

Kareke noted that infrastructural plans are in place under the CDF to construct a perimeter wall at the campus, with most of the buildings already put up through his office.

He further lauded stakeholder efforts in propelling Nturiri Boys Senior School back to academic glory.

“When we relocated here, we promised to have a dedication event and official opening later. That is why we are here. Our other key agenda is to get the school back to where it was before and restore its lost academic glory,” Kareke said.

Other leaders present included MCAs Nevert Ntwiga, Frankline Mawira, Morris Maugu, and politicians Gitonga Bongo and Anita Mbae.
