National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has praised government gains in Tharaka-Nithi County, noting that the region is reaping big from recent state investments.

Leading a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders on a development tour of the county, the Majority Leader said Tharaka-Nithi had seen major strides in roads, infrastructure, and electrification under President William Ruto’s administration.

Addressing residents at Kaanwa Market in Chuka Igambang'ombe Constituency during the launch of the Kaanwa–Kamutiria road tarmacking project, Ichung’wah revealed that the government had injected over KSh 2.2 billion into affordable housing initiatives in the county. President William Ruto has already commissioned a KSh 1.2 billion housing project at Chuka.

Additionally, KSh 588 million has been allocated for the construction of markets, with works already underway at the Chuka and Chogoria Modern Markets, both commissioned by President Ruto during his county tour.

Ichung’wah highlighted that Chuka Technical and Vocational Institute, one of the largest technical institutions in Kenya with over 8,000 students, is slated to receive hostels for 1,760 students. Meanwhile, Chuka University is set to receive KSh 1.1 billion for hostel construction. In total, over KSh 2.2 billion has been earmarked for accommodation infrastructure in institutions of higher learning across the county.

To support last-mile electricity connection, the government has invested KSh 731 million in rural electrification programs.

“Tharaka-Nithi County has benefited from the rollout of development projects, and we will ensure their completion. This government has an agenda, the rest are just chanting one term,” Ichung’wah said.

Chuka Igambang'ombe MP Patrick Munene urged the government to elevate Chuka Technical Vocational Institute to national status, citing its potential to benefit from improved road infrastructure.

“Once the road is complete, we request the government to upgrade Kaanwa Market to boost the area’s economic growth. Let us support the government to deliver further projects,” he added.

“Tharaka-Nithi County is enjoying the fruits of development, with key infrastructure projects already commissioned and completed. I urge residents to support the government,” said Blue Economy and Fisheries PS Betsy Njagi.

Other leaders present included South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro and Nominated MP Sabina Chege, who called on residents to be patient and allow the government time to fulfill its promises.

Additionally, KSh 4 million was disbursed to local groups through the Uwezo Fund.
