Tharaka-Nithi County Woman Representative Susan Ngugi has condemned political leaders sponsoring violence in the county, describing the move as a cowardly way of settling political scores.

While addressing residents at Igakiramba in Maara Constituency on Monday, Ngugi denounced the violence and disruptions witnessed on September 4 during an empowerment drive led by Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri in Magutuni, where clashes reportedly broke out between supporters of Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki and those aligned with Ngugi.

“We have information that goons were hired to cause havoc and disrupt Mwangi Kiunjuri’s tour of the county. If you feel like you’re losing popularity, don’t resort to violence to prove your supremacy. Sell your agenda to the people and let them decide at the ballot,” she said.

“My track record speaks for itself. Others are relying on handouts to win elections, yet they’ve held leadership positions for over two decades with nothing to show, and now they want to be elected to even higher offices,” Ngugi added.

At Igakiramba, the Woman Representative distributed tents and chairs to various community groups as part of her empowerment initiative.

The beneficiary groups included Nkaria Bukeja Welfare, Tujenge Makengi Welfare, Ufunuo Welfare, New Kathareni/Nkubiu Welfare, Ndou Welfare, Makengi Welfare, Ndegi Njagi Clan Welfare, Muguna Welfare, and Mwitethia Welfare.

Ngugi expressed gratitude to President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for supporting grassroots empowerment in the county, urging residents to re-elect the Kenya Kwanza government for a second term.

“We thank the government for availing funds for these empowerment programs. If re-elected, we will continue to benefit from more development projects. It’s time we embrace this leadership and support our son, Kithure Kindiki, by voting for President William Ruto,” she said.
