Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has cautioned the opposition against attempts to drag the government into what he termed as “premature and useless politics,” insisting that such distractions are wasteful and counterproductive.

Prof. Kindiki emphasized that the government is currently focused on implementing a robust development agenda aimed at transforming the lives of Kenyans through timely completion of key projects.

“It is not yet time to engage in premature and useless politics. Those enticing us to politick now are enemies of progress. We must reject their invitation because we have a duty to deliver, completing roads, expanding electricity access, and building markets,” he declared.

Speaking on Saturday during the Maara Constituency Economic Empowerment Engagement in Chogoria, Tharaka Nithi County, the Deputy President dismissed calls to engage in what he described as agenda-less political theatrics, but assured that when the time comes, the government side will be ready for a formidable political contest.

“We have no time for politics. This is the time to build our country. But when the time comes, we are unmatched experts, and we will deliver an unparalleled competition,” he said.

Prof. Kindiki outlined a series of ongoing and upcoming development projects in Tharaka Nithi County, pledging to push for their timely completion.

He noted that all previously stalled roads in the county have been revived, including the Chogoria–Mutindwa–Weru Road, which had been abandoned since 2018, and the Keeria–Magutuni–Kathwana Road. New roads under the Ruto Administration include the Katharaka–Kanoro and Mitheru–Kamachuku roads, among others.

“I will ensure all these roads are completed without further delays. As Deputy President, I take full responsibility for their delivery and for the completion of all other projects in Tharaka Nithi,” he pledged.

The DP also announced the commencement of the multi-billion-shilling reconstruction of the Nithi Bridge, with Sh8 billion already allocated for the project. The bridge, which has been the site of numerous fatal accidents, is being redesigned and rebuilt as promised by President William Ruto.

“We already have the money for the reconstruction of Nithi Bridge. We will build and complete it, and the President will be here to launch it. No one told Moi, Kibaki, or Uhuru to serve one term despite their failure to rebuild this bridge. Now that Ruto is doing it, we are being told he should serve one term. It won’t happen. He will serve two terms and complete the Nithi Bridge to save our people from further tragedy,” Kindiki asserted.

He further revealed that funding for last-mile electricity connections in the county has tripled, from Sh400 million to Sh1.2 billion in the current financial year.

The Chogoria Modern Market is also nearing completion, with plans underway to construct at least six new markets in each of the county’s three constituencies, Maara, Tharaka, and Chuka–Igambang’ombe.

“We have no excuse not to deliver development to the people of Tharaka Nithi. We will work with all leaders in the county to complete ongoing projects and push for more,” he said.

Woman Representative Susan Ngugi lauded the Kenya Kwanza administration for its commitment to empowerment programs, particularly in Tharaka Nithi County.

“No previous government has invested in empowerment programs like the administration of President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. We thank you for these initiatives and fully support your re-election,” she said.

Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki urged the Deputy President to push for more households in Maara to be connected to electricity. He also highlighted poor road infrastructure as a major challenge in the constituency.

“For instance, the Chogoria–Weru road has stalled for years, and the Keria–Magutuni road needs urgent completion as it is a vital link in the county. We also requested three additional roads during our visit to Karen, and we hope they will be considered in the next phase of projects,” Kareke said.

“We remain loyal to the government and are confident it will serve two full terms. We can see the journey ahead, and we believe it will be steered by you, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki,” he added.

The Deputy President was accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah (MP, Kikuyu), Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro (MP, South Mugirango), MPs Kareke Mbiuki (Maara), Gitonga Murugara (Tharaka), Patrick Munene (Chuka–Igambang’ombe), Susan Ngugi (Woman Representative, Tharaka Nithi), Shadrack Mwiti (South Imenti), Deputy Governor Nyaga Muisiraeli, former Governor Samuel Ragwa, MCAs, and other local leaders.
