The national government has launched 12 projects worth KSh 67 million in Chuka/Igambang'ombe Constituency as part of rural electrification efforts across the country.
Speaking at Kajuki on Friday, 4 July, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Energy, Alex Wachira, said the projects were part of the KSh 731 million allocated to Tharaka-Nithi County for rural electrification, expected to benefit over 7,900 homes.
“Out of the 7,900 homes set to benefit, 2,200 are in Chuka/Igambang'ombe Constituency. Today, we’ve launched 12 projects worth KSh 67 million, which we expect to be completed by the end of this year,” he said.
PS Wachira added that the government had also injected an additional KSh 400 million into the county to extend the electrification programme to March 2026, ensuring more residents are connected to electricity.

Principal Secretary for the State Department for the Blue Economy and Fisheries, Betsy Muthoni Njagi, noted that strong collaboration among Permanent Secretaries in various ministries under Kenya Kwanza was instrumental in driving development. She said the government remained committed to connecting more households to electricity, a key pillar of President William Ruto’s agenda.
“We will work together, as government, to ensure more people are connected to electricity, which is part of the Kenya Kwanza agenda. In his manifesto, President William Ruto prioritized rural electrification, and we’re working to achieve that,” said PS Njagi.
Both Principal Secretaries rallied support for President Ruto’s administration, urging residents to look past opposition politics and support the government’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Election.
“We are saying ‘two term’ because we’ve seen President Ruto’s vision, and we believe that together with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, they are taking the country to greater heights,” said PS Wachira.

Chuka/Igambang'ombe MP Patrick Munene also defended Ruto’s leadership, saying the region had reaped benefits from Kindiki’s appointment as Deputy President.
“Ruto picked Kindiki as Deputy President despite our numbers. He did not despise or discriminate against us. He can be rejected anywhere, but not in Tharaka-Nithi County,” the MP said.
The three leaders also graced an empowerment drive where KSh 2.5 million was raised to support King David Disability and Widows Group, which has over 2,700 members.
